New line for fall covers up in a fashion-forward way: Clotheslines

Dear Marylou: What new trend in the fall/winter previews do you believe will have the biggest impact on what women really will wear? -- L.L., Cleveland
Dear L.L.: I call it The New Modesty -- fashion's new coverup via high necklines and long sleeves. I believe this new appeal of genteel will, of course, be good news to women of a certain age -- women who want to hide their arms and necks. But perhaps more important, I believe it will register with young women who've never seen this look before from major designers -- major designers devoted to decolletage and Michelle Obama arms.
One such designer, the multi-awarded Norma Kamali, calls the midcalf fitted coatdress she illustrates here her modern take on Lucille Ball. The silk dress also reflects Kamali's mission to stop objectification. Without plunging necklines to tantalize, women can get on with their lives, both at work and play. And can look good doing it. She also believes that women can keep from objectifying themselves at the office if they avoid platform shoes and keep their feet on the ground.
